Jeff Durand, a cherished member of the Valley High School Class of 1991 and a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has sadly passed away. Jeff had been courageously battling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a rare and progressive lung disease that affects the ability to breathe over time. Despite his resilience and determination to fight, he lost his battle on January 28.
Jeff was known for his warm and welcoming personality, his ability to light up a room with his humor, and his unwavering loyalty to those he held dear. As a high school student at Valley High, he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. His classmates remember him as someone who was always there for others, whether to offer a helping hand, share a laugh, or simply listen when someone needed support. He was a friend in the truest sense of the word—kind, dependable, and genuine.
After high school, Jeff remained in Pittsburgh, a city he deeply loved. He built a life filled with meaningful relationships, cherished memories, and an unwavering appreciation for the simple joys of life. Whether it was catching a Steelers game, spending time outdoors, or gathering with friends for a meal, he embraced life with an enthusiasm that was contagious.
Jeff’s battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis was not an easy one. This disease, which causes scarring of the lungs and gradually makes breathing more difficult, presented many challenges. Yet, through it all, Jeff remained strong and hopeful. He faced each day with courage, never letting his condition define him. His determination to fight and his ability to stay positive despite his struggles were inspiring to everyone who knew him.
