A Powell, Wyoming father says his world has been shattered after his wife killed their children following an altercation at their home in Byron, WY on on Monday evening.
The heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the small community of Byron, Wyoming after a mother identified as Tranyelle Harshman fatally shot four of her children following a domestic altercation on Monday evening. Law enforcement officers responding to the scene discovered multiple gunshot victims, both deceased and injured.
According to Big Horn County Sheriff Ken Blackburn, a total of five people were shot in the incident. Two survivors were rushed to North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell for emergency medical care. Law enforcement agents on site administered life-saving efforts before the victims were transported.
Authorities received a 911 call at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Monday reporting gunfire at a home located on the south side of Byron. The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office responded swiftly, along with personnel from the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Lovell Police Department.
“While securing the residence, law enforcement officers observed multiple victims of gunshots within the residence, both alive and deceased,” a statement from the sheriff’s office confirmed.
“February 10th, 2025, at approximately 1:30 PM, the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call regarding shots fired from a residence on the south side of the Town of Byron.
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded with multiple personnel, along with the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Lovell Police Department. The residence involved with the reported shots fired incident was immediately secured by arriving law enforcement.
While securing the residence, law enforcement officers observed multiple victims of gunshots within the residence, both alive and deceased. Multiple individuals were transported by ambulance to North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell, Wyoming for emergency care.”
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been called in to assist with processing the scene, which is being treated as an active crime scene.
Sheriff Blackburn cautioned against the spread of misinformation, addressing a false rumor that law enforcement officers had discharged their weapons during the incident. “At this time, there is no active threat to the citizens of Big Horn County,” the sheriff reassured the community, emphasizing the importance of respecting the victims and awaiting factual updates from official sources.
Authorities expressed their gratitude to multiple responding agencies, including the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Lovell Police Department, North Big Horn Hospital and Ambulance, Powell Valley Hospital Ambulance, and DCI.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected by this tragedy,” the sheriff’s statement concluded.
Byron, a small farming town approximately 12 miles southwest of Lovell, is now grappling with the devastating aftermath of this shocking event. As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of innocent lives and rallies to support the grieving father and surviving victims.
