In a tragedy that has left families devastated and a community in stunned disbelief, two innocent people are fighting for their lives after a series of deliberate rock-throwing attacks on moving vehicles in Markham, Ontario. What began as reckless acts of endangerment ended in horror, when one of these senseless stunts caused a catastrophic collision—forever altering the lives of those involved.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed that two 18-year-old males were arrested following an extensive investigation into multiple rock-throwing incidents that occurred between September 20 and November 30, 2024. The attacks targeted unsuspecting motorists and even a passenger bus, hurling heavy rocks at vehicles in motion—a cruel game that turned into a nightmare.
One particular incident stands out for its devastating impact. In what authorities described as a “serious collision,” two people sustained life-threatening injuries after their vehicle was struck and lost control. Their identities have not been released, but loved ones are reportedly keeping vigil at their hospital beds, praying for a miracle recovery.
Another horrifying detail emerged: a rock was also thrown at the windshield of a bus filled with passengers traveling on Highway 48, just north of Major Mackenzie Drive. Miraculously, no injuries were reported in that case, but the trauma and fear left behind linger deeply.
The arrested suspects—one from Markham, the other from Richmond Hill—are now facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, mischief endangering life, and mischief damaging property. Because they were legally minors at the time of the offences, their names are being withheld. Despite the gravity of the charges, both have been released and are expected to appear in court at a later date.
While justice will take its course, the emotional damage left behind is immeasurable.
