According to his heartbroken older sister, Izabella Cromack-Hay, Sonny attempted a backflip in the lounge room, striking his head on the ground. He experienced a headache but thought little of it and went to bed. What followed was nothing short of horrifying.
“He woke up, went to the toilet vomiting and then passed out,” Cromack-Hay shared. “That’s when his best friend found him unresponsive in the morning.”
Sonny was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at a Queensland hospital, where doctors battled to save him. He had suffered multiple strokes and a severe brain bleed, leading to the placement of a drain to relieve the pressure inside his skull. For days, the family clung to hope as Sonny fought for his life.
