John Jairo Mosquera obituary – Missing John Jairo Mosquera died in a deadly hit-and-run accident

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of John Jairo Mosquera, 39, of Newport News, Virginia. John was a loving individual, known for his kindness, generosity, and warm heart. His sudden death has left his family, friends, and community in shock and mourning.

John was reported missing on February 8, 2025, after being last seen leaving Hoss’s Deli around 1 a.m. on Saturday. His body was discovered on February 12, 2025, near the southbound lane of George Washington Memorial Highway, close to the Newport News city line, following a search by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

John’s passing has been ruled a result of a fatal hit-and-run, and the incident has been classified as a case of felony involuntary manslaughter-DUI and felony hit-and-run with injuries. The person responsible for this tragic event, Elizabeth Castro, 52, has been arrested and charged in connection with the crime.

He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his friends, and his community. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and countless loved ones whose lives he touched with his compassion and warmth.
