David ‘Ace’ Cannon, former co-host of the long-running “Ace & TJ Show,” passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from an apparent suicide. He was 56 years old.

Cannon first met his longtime on-air partner, Ritchie ‘TJ’ Beams, in 1991 while both were working part-time at KQID in Alexandria, Louisiana. Their chemistry led to a morning show partnership, which took them to WZYP in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1995 before settling in Charlotte at “Kiss 95.1” WNKS in 1998. The “Ace & TJ Show” became a staple in the Charlotte market, maintaining a presence despite multiple station moves, including to “Channel 96.1” WHQC in 2012, back to WNKS in 2022 for a midday slot, and finally to Beasley Classic Hits “K104.7” WKQC in May 2024.

The duo built a loyal following with their blend of humor, camaraderie, and audience engagement. Their show became a cultural touchstone in Charlotte, known for its relatable discussions, prank calls, and signature segments. Cannon and Beams often used their platform to support charitable efforts, organizing fundraisers and community outreach programs that benefited countless listeners.

According to reports, David Ace Cannon suffered mental anxieties following the unexpected death of his daughter in 2020. Cannon is survived by his sons, Cade and Dax, his ex-wives, Shonnette and Amanda, and his sister, Piper. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Payton, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2020. Those who knew him personally remember him as a devoted father, a supportive friend, and an individual with an infectious passion for radio.
